Prizes are available at all levels of university study. Typically, these are managed at the departmental level. Students should check their department's websites for information on available prizes. Prizes are generally awarded to students who have performed exceptionally in academic studies. Eligibility and application processes may vary depending on the specific prize. 

The central University administers three prizes, with details provided below. For queries regarding the three centrally managed prizes, please contact [email protected].

Winifred Georgina Holgate-Pollard Memorial Prize (Holgate-Pollard Prize)

The Holgate-Pollard Prize is available to undergraduate students who are in the part of their tripos that qualifies them for a B.A. degree (final year students). Students do not need to apply, they are nominated by their departments for this award. Winners are notified between August-October each academic year.  

The Gladstone Prize

The Gladstone Prize is available to undergraduate students studying Economics, History or Social and Political Sciences degree routes. Students are nominated by their department submitting a copy of their anonymised dissertations - up to 2 students per department can be nominated. The winner is notified at the end of the academic year.

The Hamilton Prize

The Hamilton Prize is available to postgraduate Engineering students. Candidates need to be current graduate students, who have not been awarded the prize before and have not completed nine terms of their course. To enter, students must submit a 5000-word report ‘embodying research carried out in the University on the theory or practice of the physics or engineering of any aspect of communication, propagation, or signal processing, associated with electromagnetic radiation or wave propagation’.
